Coming Soon: Tiny Plants
After what has seemed like a few weeks of new product drought from the official Lego store site, we were blessed with not only a ‘Coming Soon’ but a pre-order from the ever inventive Botanical Collection - set 10329 Tiny Plants!
I happened to be at my local Lego Store on New Year’s Day 2021 when they released the first two sets in and launched the Botanical Collection (10280 Flower Bouquet and 10281 Bonsai Tree). I was waiting in line before opening and the staff was handing out print-outs for these sets. They had limited quantities of select 1/1/2021 releases (remember, this was about a year after the pandemic started in early 2020) and you could only get these sets at checkout if you presented these print-outs. When the staff got to me in line for my choice I had not even known these sets were coming out but I immediately grabbed one for the Bonsai Tree. I just thought it was such a unique set that I had to get it. Fortunately, Lego is carrying this theme through Winter 2023 with this release.
The variables:
Set #: 10329
Theme: ICONS / Botanical Collection
Name: Tiny Plants
Ages: 18+
Pieces: 758
Price: $49.99
Release Date: December 1, 2023 (Pre-Order Available NOW)
The Angle: Although I won’t pre-order this set, this is a Day 1 purchase for me (unless I confirm on sure authority I can expect it under the Christmas tree). Lego continues to surprise with the variety of flowers and flora they put through production and this is no exception. The set boasts a total of 9 individually potted species of plants subdivided into further classifications of Tropical, Arid, and Carnivorous with the highlights for me being the Cacti and the Venus Fly Trap. This will certainly pair well with the prior 10309 Succulents set and is certainly a step up from the most recent releases of the 10313 Wildflower Bouquet and 10314 Dried Flower Centerpiece. I love all the botanical sets and the variety those releases brought, but there was just something a little stale about those two compared to the rest of the theme. These sets are marketed as 18+ primarily, I believe, due to the unique building techniques and parts usage as well as the target consumer, but I wouldn’t hesitate if you have a pre-teen or younger teen builder. Finally, I have to commend Lego for continuing to support the family unit as they also designed this set to be built by multiple people together (indicated by the 1-3 person icon on the packaging).
The Answer: The ingenuity and value is there, a solid entry in this continuing theme, and perfect for individual collectors or family activity. 9.5 / 10.0
Creator Highlight: Emmasaurus’s Short on the set reveal
